If you are cruising down Washington Street in downtown Toms River during the morning rush, you might notice a steady stream of folks walking by holding cardboard trays loaded up with coffee. That was my first clue that First Date Coffee Shop is an absolute neighborhood hotspot. People are clearly stopping in to grab their daily fix on the way to work, and after checking it out myself, I completely see what all the hype is about. Stepping inside, the place hits you with a super cool retro chic vibe that immediately puts you at ease. It is an intimate setup with just enough cozy seating like a comfortable couch and a few chairs to hang out, read a book, or catch up with friends. The owner was behind the counter when I walked in and was wonderful to talk to while preparing my drink. I asked about the name, and sure enough, it comes from where she had her very first date with her significant other. The fun twist is that original date happened at another great local spot nearby that roasts its own beans, which makes the whole story even sweeter. As for the main event, the coffee here is very good. I went with a classic latte, prepared fresh right in front of me while we chit chatted

This is hands down my absolute favorite coffee shop. The owner is so sweet & amazing, the atmosphere is welcoming/cozy, and the drinks are always SO good. I literally walk in and say what type of drink I’d like (ex. Latte, cold brew) and then tell her to surprise me with whatever she’d like to make flavor wise! First date may be a smaller coffee shop but they truly care about the quality they serve. Highly recommend to anyone looking for great coffee!

Coffee was great fasting. Friendly service and perfect place to refresh after taking our children to the library. Fantastic pink decor and great family time at local spot in TR.

Love this cute lil coffee shop! It is exactly what TR needed! The aesthetic is perfection , down to the pink heart straws omggg I was obsessed ! & The drinks were delicious. So good, that my husband downed a 3rd of his latte before I could even take a cute shot LOL The main reason we will definitely be coming back here is that the energy was so warm and welcoming from the ladies taking care of us. They were very sweet and friendly! All around amazing vibes 10 out of 10 experience

First Date has been such a delightful addition to downtown Toms River. I’ve been there a few times already, with my first visit being their soft open during one of the towns street fairs. I asked the owner if they have dairy free options, explaining I have a dairy and wheat allergy. She went inside to double check the ingredients for one of the items, which was very helpful and reassuring. I love that energy drinks, dirty sodas, and coffee drinks are offered. The drinks offered change seasonally (with staple cafe drinks offered as well) and the owner is very quick to tell me what changes can be made to the drinks to accommodate my food restrictions. Every drink I’ve had has been great and I love that they have a rewards program for customers. First Date is a great, family owned coffee shop, and the owners’ thoughtfulness is so welcoming. I look forward to visiting again.
